Mogelijk hepatitis A-uitbraak in Nederland

Sinds januari is hepatitis vastgesteld bij veertien Nederlanders die verspreid door het hele land wonen en die recent niet in het buitenland zijn geweest. De Voedsel en Waren Autoriteit (VWA) houdt daarom rekening met een hepatitis A-uitbraak in Nederland.

halfgedroogde tomaten

Mogelijk zijn de mensen met hepatitis A besmet geraakt door het eten van halfgedroogde tomaten. Die worden bijvoorbeeld in potjes verkocht of zitten in kant-en-klaarsalades en kant-en-klaartapanade.

Het aangetrofffen hepatitis A-virus type is ook aangetroffen in Australië en Frankrijk. Nederland zou volgens de VWA daarmee het derde land kunnen zijn waar dit hepatitis a virus type is opgedoken.

Geelzucht

Hepatitis A-virus kan geelzucht veroorzaken. Normaal gesproken krijgen enkele honderden Nederlanders per jaar hepatitis A. Normaal lopen Nederlanders hepatitis A in het buitenland op en niet in Nederland.
