Hepatitis mogelijk in rijksvaccinatieprogramma

Alle baby's in Nederland moeten een vaccinatie krijgen tegen hepatitis b. Het wordt tijd dat minister Ab Klink van Volksgezondheid daartoe besluit, dat zegt het Nationaal Hepatitis Centrum.

Advies

De Gezondheidsraad heeft het kabinet vorig jaar al geadviseerd de vaccinatie standaard in te voeren. Eerder had de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie (WHO) dat al gedaan.

Hepatitis

Naar schatting hebben in Nederland 60.000 mensen een chronische hepatitis B-infectie. Het gros is migrant, en dan met name migrant van de eerste generatie. Veel van de mensen weten niet eens dat ze de ziekte hebben. Besmetting verloopt onder meer via seksueel contact, onhygiënisch handelen door artsen of verpleegkundig personeel, en moeder-kind besmetting tijdens de bevalling. Ook kunnen mensen besmet raken als ze onder onhygiënische omstandigheden een tatoeage laten zetten.
