Verbod op borstimplantaten van Poly Implant Protheses
De Inspectie voor de Gezondheidszorg verbiedt met onmiddellijke ingang de handel en het implanteren van borstimplantaten van het Franse merk Poly Implant Protheses.

Operatie als alternatief voor maagzuurremmers
Een nieuwe operatie techniek voor de behandeling van patienten met brandend maagzuur is minder belastend voor patiënten, zorgt voor minder complicaties en maakt zuurremmende medicijnen veelal overbodig.

Cardiologen van het Erasmus MC hebben ontdekt dat buikvet van mensen stamcellen bevat die de beschadigde hartspier kunnen repareren. Patiënten herstellen sneller en beter als stamcellen van het buikvet snel na het infarct vanuit de buik naar het hart word

Eenvouding onderzoek verminderd risico op infectie na operatie
Wanneer patiënten worden behandeld met antibiotica (Mupirocine en chloorhexidine) voordat ze worden geopereerd, dan neemt het risico op een infectie met een Staphylococcus aureus af van 7.7% naar 3.4%.

Veel botbreuken door gladheid
IJzel heeft tot extra drukte geleid op de afdeling spoedeisende hulp. Veel mensen kwamen naar het ziekenhuis met botbreuken.
